LA to Chicago 8 Days Roadtrip

Hello,

I am looking for advice on a roadtrip from LA to Chicago in early July.
I am an adult male and I will be traveling with my parents. It has always been my Dads dream to travel across America.

We only have 9 days which I realise is not much time
. It will have to be a whistle stop tour but we would love to see as much of the wild west as possible, all the fun stuff. And of course some good food and drink in the evening.

Vegas is definitely first stop. After that it is mind boggling.
I am really looking forward to the trip.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

It mainly comes down to you and your parents interests but as for the 'Wild west' I would say your next port of call would be the Grand canyon and then head out through Monument Valley towards Moab and Arches and Canyonlands NP's. I70 is on of the most scenic Interstates anywhere and that will take you by the Colorado NM and close to Rocky mountain NP in Colorado.

If you wanted to focus your time in this area and 'sprint' from Denver to Chicago in 2 days you would have quite a few other options, Zion and Bryce canyon, Lake Powell, Mesa Verde NP, the 'Million dollar highway' are just a few of the options you could choose from.

I would open a good map and research by reading around the RTA site for ideas and get a few more dots on the map based on your interests. Once you have done so we can help fill in the blanks and help to 'fine tune' your trip.

Oh yeah, I hope this is a one way trip or else you won't have time for anything other than to drive to Chicago, stay a few hours and then drive back again ! ;-)
