Savannah to Boston with dog

I will be heading to Beantown with my dog and plan on taking two days. Three if needed. I would like to know of pet friendly places to stay, off the beaten path. A route other than I 95 and all the toll roads is desired as we are really it in a rush. Three days may be more reasonable. I will leave the beginning of November.

Avoiding the drive up the I-95 corridor is the best decision you could have made to begin your planning for this trip. It is possible to get to Boston while almost completely avoiding I-95 and toll roads while only adding about 150 mile to the drive. It would still (just) be possible to do in two days, but taking three would mean that you would have time to enjoy some time hiking with your dog and other activities. What you'll want to do is initially drive to Columbia SC and then take I-77 up to I-81 near Fort Chiswell VA. Then follow I-81 all the way to Scranton PA and use I-84 from there to the Mass Pike (your only toll road on this route) into Boston. As for places to take breaks during the drive, they are everywhere as are pet friendly motels. Motel 6, Econolodge and Red Roof among the budget chains, and La Quinta, Clarion and Comfort Inns among the mid-level chains all have pet-friendly policies. But it is always a good idea to check ahead with the particular location to determine any fees, deposits, or weight restrictions that might apply.

While going through North Carolina, be sure to stop at a BBQ place for some of that great Carolina-style pit-cooked stuff and wash it down with that sweet tea.
