Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !
What sort of tips were you looking for ? How many days are you allowing for the journey ? You don't mention your exact start and finish points, but it would be a squeeze trying to do it in 4 days and 4.5/5 days would most likely be the minimum to keep things reasonably comfortable. As for Pet friendly Hotels, I'm not sure of, but if you work out your distances and even out your stops accordingly [recommended at 550 miles to 600 miles per day maximum on multi day trips] you should be able to search the nearby towns for Pet friendly Hotels.
Here is a link to Pet friendly Hotels on the RTA reservations page.
I've done cross-country moves or vacations in two cars several times in my lifetime. Here are some tips:
* Find a way to communicate between the two cars. These days, that could be cell phones (with Bluetooth or other hands-free devices) or those little family radios. Years and years ago, we did it with a system of headlight flashes, sort of a Morse-code. I prefer the radios.
* The pets may be far better off if in kennels for the travel rather than allowed to be loose in the car. This is especially true of the kitty cats, who may not be used to travel that isn't associated with a trip to the vets office! BTW, La Quinta is one hotel chain that is "pet friendly". If you are AAA members (recommended), pick up the Tour Books for the states you'll cross through. Each of their listings will say "pets okay" if the hotel is okay with pets.
