  1. Default Pittsburgh to Huntington Beach

    Good Morning All,

My wife and I (and two small dogs), will be making another trip to the west coast in July to see family. We have done it twice in the past but not really too much sight seeing or with the dogs. We are a little nervous taking the dogs just because we never done it before and obviously could put a limit on some things we do or see. We are driving from Pittsburgh to Huntington Beach, CA, as os now we are driving I-80, I-76 to Colorado and I-70 to I-15 TO California then not sure on our route coming back.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to see, where to stay (with dogs), or how to travel with dogs.

    Thanks!

What to see....well, along I-80 you will have some of the same viewpoints that were seen by the travelers on the Oregon Trail so very long ago....mostly in Nebraska. Backtracking a little (got ahead of myself!) there are the Amana Colonies in IA.

I-70 between Denver and Richfield UT has some of the most beautiful scenery on an interstate! West of Denver is the Glenwood Springs area, with the "hanging freeway" through Glenwood Canyon. Be SURE to take in some of the rest areas, they are all different and pretty! Glenwood Springs does have some hot spring pools, too. In UT, you would have access to Arches NP (and further south, Canyonlands, Zion and Bryce Canyon NP). If time is of the essence, the drive through Escalante Canyon (between Green River UT and Salina UT) is a very beautiful desert and canyon. You will meet I-15 about 20 miles after Richfield (which is about 600 miles from where you are going). I-15 is beautiful as well, but my favorite part is the Virgin River Gorge between St George UT and the State Line at NV (all in AZ). There's Las Vegas too, along the way.

Traveling and staying with dogs -- hopefully someone else will have the answer for you.

Return could be via I-15 to I-40, across to TN where you pick up I-81 north. There are some wonderful things along that route, too.

How long do you have for the round trip?
