I just made a "speed run" from Lompoc CA to San Diego. I set the cruise control at the speed limit +5 except as noted below and went right through the middle of LA - 101 to 5. It was Sunday and there were NO traffic delays whatsoever - and on the stretch of 101 and 5 through LA that's posted at 55, I was doing 70 just to somewhat keep up with traffic. It took me exactly 4 hours, I made no stops whatsoever. 270 miles, that's an average of 67.5 mph.

I was curious, so I just plotted the route on Streets & Trips, and it came up with 4 hours and 1 minute. Google Maps came up with 4 hours and 24 minutes. Mapquest came up with 4 hours and 45 minutes.

If anyone were to ask me how long it takes to get from Lompoc to San Diego, I'd have to say 4.5 hours *IF* there's no traffic in LA (VERY rare). Just a bathroom stop would have made my run close to that.
