My boyfriend and i are trying to plan a roadtrip for March. We'll be going from Los Angeles, California to Columbus, Ohio. Any tips and suggestions for places to stay or visit?

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!
There is a broad swath of land between those two points on the compass, so information about you would help us to make suggestions. Things such as your interests (cities? National Parks? rivers? mountains?) and the amount of time you have available would be key here.
If you have any initial thoughts about what route you plan to take, that would be helpful too, but often folks with a question such as yours don't have any set route plans yet.
One of the best ways to start, is to start reading about the US. Even if that means going back over the geography books from your school days. Another is to watch documentaries on nature, or make note of things and places you hear people discuss. Every time you hear something mentioned, make a note of it.
Get a full size map of the US, and when you read, see or hear about a place which sparks your interest, mark it on the map. I have a feeling that long before March, you will see a route developing on paper. Use computer mapping programs to zoom in to specifics and the map centre (on the green bar above) will give more ideas as to what is along any given route.
Before you know it, you will have several routes jumping off the paper.... and then the next decision will be, which to take. The time you have to do this trip will have a great say in that answer.
Enjoy the planning.
