  1. Default Cross Country in Oct./Nov.

    Hi,

We are considering a cross country (Mid-Atlantic to California and back) trip from late October through November. We will be pulling an A Liner and traveling with two dogs. We are hoping for a mix of campgrounds and dog friendly hotels. Our concerns are travel weather conditions and whether campgrounds will be open that time of year. For this trip we will likely choose the southern route - Route 10, etc.

Any experiences and advise is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Welcome!

I have no personal knowledge, but I would think that there should be enough open campgrounds across the South. The midrange hotel chain that comes to mind that's pet-friendly is La Quinta. Motel 6 is cheaper and also pet-friendly, but they may not accept more than one dog.

So you don't retrace your steps, you may want to consider taking I-40 on the way out before the weather gets cold, then go south on the way back.

I'm not familiar with the south east, but from Texas to California, I'm sure you will be able to find campgrounds open especially if you are sticking to the interstates.

Weather can be iffy so eep your radio on to listen to weather forecasts if you don't have any other device like a smart phone, internet or weather band radio.

I agree with glc and I'd take I-40 west if weather permits and I-10 back. Are you going to do any site seeing on the trip or is the object to get to California as soon as possible?
