    Default Definitely do the PCH

Hi Mark, and Welcome to RTA Forums.

You can certainly go via the PCH, in fact it would be my first recommendation. Be aware that this is a two day trip from Sunnyvale. Doing this road from north to south gives you the advantage of being on the ocean side of the road, making pulling into the many pull-offs and view points that much easier.

You may also like to look at the Hearst Castle tour - though you would need to book this ahead. A convenient stop would be somewhere round Cambria.

For a return trip, if you have the time, I would consider going inland, and maybe via Kings Canyon NP and / or Yosemite NP.

Although it is nice to have a gps, don't be too dependent on it. They have been known to be inaccurate on far too many ocassions, with fatal consequences. Make sure you have a good paper map of CA as well.

If you must get to Disneyland by Friday night, you will have to take I-5 or US-101. Traffic will be terrible all through LA. Taking the PCH and spending Friday night on the road will be a much nicer trip. Take 85 to 17 to Santa Cruz to pick up the PCH, which is Highway 1. Take that all the way to San Luis Obispo, then take US-101 to LA, then I-5 to Anaheim.
