    Default Time to Wander

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

At under a thousand miles, the drive from Chicago to New Orleans would be a comfortable two day drive using the Interstates (motorways) for most Americans. so eight days is plenty of time to take the road less traveled and go at a slower pace that allows you to see quite a bit along the way. The Great River Road is actually a collection of these smaller roads in several states on both sides of the river. I'd use that (those?) as the 'backbone' for your trip, but don't hesitate to wander off it should there be something that strikes your fancy.
