Hey fellow road trippers. Me and my family are going on a trip from Sioux Falls,SD to Black Hills to Devils Tower, and from there through WY down to Denver. Is there any good places to stop in WY to see along the way? We are not too familiar with WY and want to check it out!!!!

Cody WY is an excellent town to visit with the Buffalo Bill historical centre. This will be on your way to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons national parks which are the unmissable places to see in WY.

I would be getting a large map (such as AAA publishes) of the State, and study it in depth for all the natural attractions. Then use the map function (above) check them out further, and the search option to learn more about them. Soon you'll be very familiar with what the State has to offer.

    Default How much time ?

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

As mentioned above, you will find a lot of ideas by searching around RTA and using it's resources [check out the tool bars above, such as 'Routes' and 'Attractions' and the Map centre where you can find attractions with just a click ! Yellowstone and the Tetons would be top of most lists, but how much time do you have for this part of your journey ?

    Default "Range war" sites

    Hi trapp,

From the Black Hills/Devil's Tower area to DEN you'll be either crossing or skirting the extensive grasslands of the upper Powder River/Niobrara River basins. In WY, there are some sites related to the conflicts of the 1880s generally known as the Range Wars, of which the Johnson County War was the most well-known. The ranch where the main battle took place is private but open to the visiting public. It's south of Sheridan.

Nearby is the northwest corner of Nebraska and Fort Robinson State Park, the nearby Fossil Agate Beds, and the Museum of the Fur Trade + the Sandoz High Plains Center in Chadron, NE. I'd strongly consider a trip through Crawford + Chadron and through the Nebraska Sandhills to Valentine, NE on the return trip. There is flatwater canoeing on the Niobrara River from Valentine, complete with outfitters/shuttles.

Grab a map and start daydreaming (aka planning)!
