  1. Default 5 days to include Mass, CT, VT, NH, Maine - any suggestions?

Our family of 4 (kids age 7 & 11) will be doing a quick roadtrip of New England. We are not familiar w/ this area at all, as we are from Colorado. Does anyone have any "must-see" places? We would like to stay one night in Boston too - tips are greatly appreciated!

    Default Research and details.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

I am not familiar with New England so I can't offer any 'first hand' experience. What I can recommend is that you look around the forums using the search function and by simply scrolling down this page where you will find 'Similar threads'. We don't do "must see places" much around here as it is a different result for different interests, which is something you haven't shared [?] To get you started you can look at the links in this thread and get some dots on the map, once you have done that I am sure you will have other questions and then members will be able to help join those dots together.

Don't forget to let the Kids join in the planning and get them involved as they will have a vested interest in the trip which will make it more enjoyable for everyone.

You also say you are from Colorado and that you have 5 days for a "quick road trip of New England". but you do not mention where you are actually starting your road trip from, or perhaps how long you have in total for your trip ? One thing that is 100% certain is that you can't get from Colorado and back again while taking a tour in New England !

  3. Default

Kids 7 & 11 always want to be on the go... so here are some kid-friendly thoughts ...

Plimoth Plantation, just outside of Plymouth, MA. This portrays the Plymouth settlement established by the passengers of the Mayflower.

Fall River, MA has the WW2 Battleship USS Massachusetts where the kids can explore

Mystic Seaport is a re-creation of an early sailing port with demonstrations of the tall ship era.

Cape Cod National Seashore would give you the ocean experience (tho this is quite crowded).

Going north of Boston you can go along the rockbound Maine coast on US-1 up to Bar Harbor and the Acadia National Park.

I'm brand new to this but figured I'd add my thoughts as I'm from Maine.
White Mountains in NH are beautiful, especially travelling the Kangamangus Hwy although since your from CO you may not be looking for more mountains!!
I would recommend one of the whale watch tours out of Gloucester MA. You can take a ferry out of Portland ME and explore the islands. You can rent Kayaks on Peaks Island and paddle around Casco Bay to different islands also. Additionally Portland Head Light is a must see and is surrounded by a park (although I prefer Two Lights State Park to Fort Williams). You should research both. If you're coming to Maine, Freeport and LL Bean is just 20mins north of Portland and has some fun shopping and activities.
