  1. Default DC to Denver on I80

    Hi All,
My family and are traveling in June from DC to Denver on I80. We will have our 8mos old with us so we are looking to drive about 10 hours a day, stopping every 2 1/2 to 3 hours for feeding/playing/diaper changes. Any ideas on baby/kid friendly sights and places for these pitstops and/or towns to stop for the night. We're willing to veer off course a bit for any particular must see places.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Can I recommend that you not take I-80? If you take I-70 it's actually a few miles shorter and there are no tolls.

Take I-270 out of DC to I-70 to I-68. Take that to I-79 and then back to I-70.

You are looking at 3 completely full days no matter which way you go, you will be on the road for 12 hours including stops. Splitting the trip into thirds, your overnights would be Richmond IN/Kansas City if you take I-70, and Toledo OH/Omaha NE if you take 80. Splitting into 4 days, look at Columbus OH/St. Louis MO/Salina KS or Cleveland OH/Princeton IL/Lincoln NE.

The Interstates have adequate rest areas for taking care of the baby, you won't necessarily have to get off the highway except to eat real food or get fuel.

    Default Sanity Considerations

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

I agree with glc that I-70 would make a better choice, both for the tolls and for its slightly less hectic pace. You might also want to look at using I-68 through western Maryland and I-79 north back up to I-70 at Washington, PA as an alternative to the Pennsylvania Turnpike section of I-70 for the same reason. If it were just the two adults, I would say that this drive could be made in 3 days with minimal stops, but with the baby, I think you should look at taking a more relaxed four days, and making those stops every 2-3 hours a bit longer than the minimum required.

Original poster here. Thank you for your suggestions. I think we will take I70 to skip the tolls. We were just thinking I80 because someone had mentioned that there were neat towns along the way. We will definitely be taking a leisurely pace for the baby's sake and our sanity.
