Grand Junction is going to be a lot more affordable and have a lot more lodging options than Vail. I've stayed in the Super 8 in GJ, it was acceptable and inexpensive.

    Default Nice views.

I know nothing of lodgings [RV'er] but Grand junction or Fruita also makes it a short run in to Moab.

If you arrived in time the same day, or took a few hours the next morning the drive around Colorado National Monument is worthy of a small detour, it's a wonderful place. On the way to Moab you can also come off I 70 onto US 6 and UT-128 through the very scenic Castle valley. It only adds 20 mins or so to your journey time but is a wonderful drive as it follows the path of the Colorado between the red rocks.

[Just realised that Red cliffs lodge is in Castle valley but hey, you are going to love it there !!

Glenwood Springs is also an option, I think it would be costlier than Grand Junction but certainly less than Vail.

Default Tours for Bryce Canyon, Zion, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon

I have my 19 day Spring road trip planned as far as where to stay and what to see, however I would like to determine if we should use a scheduled tour for any of our points of interest.

Here is the map and detail of our road trip:

    http://techoninc.com/road_trip/West.pdf

I would like suggestions for tours we should book (and with what tour company if there are choices) at any of the places we are going to visit.

These are the major places: Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Rocky Mountain National Park (would like short colorful tour), Arches Nat. Park, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon.

Any suggestions along this route would be appreciated.

Mod Note:Please keep all of your questions in the same thread. This is the second time we've had to merge a new thread created about this same trip

    Default Self guided.

I personally prefer finding my own way around at my own pace rather than taking an organised tour and that's what I would recommend. The National parks have free shuttle bus services [although you would have to check operating dates] and do carry out some Ranger guided tours and you will find all the info on each park on the NPS website

Default Spring Road Trip-- In Progress starting May 11

We are presently on our Spring Road Trip.

There are some changes we have done since I created this schedule, but most of it is accurate.

We are in Salt Lake City and visited the Mormon Tabernacle yesterday. Saw the choir practice last night. Unbelievable! A 300 voice choir has a lot of power. How does a director control such a large group? I was in a 75 person choir about 50 years ago, so I can relate to this practice session well.

Went through Bryce Canyon. This was great scenery. We could have spent more time if we were interested in doing a lot of hiking, but this trip is considered an overview of a lot of things.

We plan on going to the Grand Tetons today. This is about a 6 hour trip from Salt Lake City. Any suggestions about things to pay attention to on the way would be welcome.

Saturday and Sunday we will be in Yellowstone. We plan on holding up a sign on one of those days in front of this webcam. I'll try to post the time we will do that:
