    You are opening up a bureaucratic minefield by not taking the car back out of the US when you return to Canada. You may be best served by driving from LA to Vancouver, dumping it there, and then flying back to Toronto.

    Wow thanks everyone for the advice!! GLC, i think thats what we will do, head up to Vancouver and dump it.

    What do they call those places? What am I looking for? A scrap yard? A Junkyard? Metal and Iron Wholesale?

    Auto Salvage and/or Recycling tends to be the most common term for a junkyard these days.

    Make sure you have a clear title to the car with you. Nobody will take it off your hands without it.

    There's a chance you may be able to sell it and get some money out of it if it runs.
