    Default Knight's Ferry Bridge?

The angle looks wrong, but I think it is Knight's Ferry?

Nah... the span is too short...

    Default You are correct.

The angle is what makes it deceptive, that, plus you can't really see the second span.

Here's a more traditional view; taken from the same side of the river. In the shot above, the near pier obscures the view of the remaining piers, making it look shorter than it really is. I didn't use this shot because that would have been TOO easy.

This is an old bridge, but is actually a replacement of the original, which was wiped out when a flood dislodged another bridge upstream and swept it into this one.

It is alleged that the original bridge was designed by the brother-in-law of the guys who built it, an army officer stationed in California in the years before the Civil War. Some guy from Galena IL who went back into shopkeeping before re-entering the military to serve in the war. Became President after Johnson. The guy buried in Grant's tomb.

    Default Yeah, that's pretty clever

Yeah, I've never stood in that place before -- so, is the second span behind the photographer?

Default What the heck happened to this building?

Where is this? What is going on with building?

    Default Hint #1

It's possible that is this appropriate, given the purpose of the building....

    Default Purpose?

Only purpose I can think of is a Salvador Dali museum.

Default Current "artist" is alive and kicking

...And has been known to scream sometimes. Dali passed on January 23, 1989, but this guy is world-renown for doing this to perfectly good buildings.... Hint #2 this is a cutting edge (so-to-speak) research institute...

    Default Don't Know the Building...

... but the architect is, in all likelihood, Frank Gehry. (With a tip of the hat to "The Simpsons", my touchstone for all things cultural.)

    Default Clues Yield Results

Frank Gehry + Megan Edwards led to a search for his buildings in Las Vegas which led to the Keep Memory Alive Foundation which will specialize in Alzheimer's research.
