I Guess that pretty well :)

But the circuit is pretty much there all year. Of course the stands are removed but that's it, so I was wondering...

    3) What are they doing?

There are clues to the questions in the photo.

I've done a little image surfing, but I, for one, need some more clues.... Neptune and his two mermaids?

Same as the track being there all year in Toronto. Or Long Beach. Or Monaco ;) If a track isn't used exclusively as a race track throughout the year it will be classed as temporary.

Clues for the mermaid rock photo:

    1) The rock could be considered an 'island'.
    2) King Neptune could be considered 'royalty'.
    3) The people on the rock are waving (maybe hello).

Totally wild guess - Kings Island amusement park?

A good guess, but not it. It is in a park, however, but not an amusement park. Here is another picture that may help.

Notice that King Neptune is on the dock in the background now. Also notice the boat at the dock and how the people are dressed (it is the 4th of July!).

    Default Wherever it is....

It looks windy and cold -- someplace in Maine?

This is a challenging one -- I'll be back later...

    Default Here's a SWAG.......

The Park is Isle Royale National Park, located in Lake Superior, and the boat in the clue picture is the Voyageur II sailing out of Grand Portage, MN.

I haven't a clue as to the rock's whereabouts nor what King Neptune and the PFD-wearing mermaids are up to in the puzzle photo.

    Default Correct Answer!

The rock is located in Washington Harbor in Isle Royale National Park approaching the Windigo Landing. "King Neptune" and the "mermaids" are NPS employees welcoming visitors to the park. The boat at the dock (in the second picture) is indeed the Voyager II from Grand Portage, MN. It is about a three hour boat trip (one way) from Grand Portage to Isle Royal. The boat left Grand Portage about 9:30 AM and arrived at Windigo about 12:15 PM. The return trip left Windigo at 2:00 PM and arriver back in Grand portage about 5:00 PM. It was indeed rather cold and windy for the fourth of July. Long pants, long sleves and a jacket were very much needed.

    Default My Yooper summers

I spent the summers of 1981 and 1982 on the UP in Crystal Falls, seat of Iron County down by the WI border. The townies said they had two seasons: Winter and the 4th of July. Sure enough, we had a fire in the woodstove a number of times in June, a handful in July, and a couple of evenings in August.

I never got out to Isle Royale, though, and I've often regretted being that close and not making the trip.
