Default If a duplicate, my bad....

This is one of my favorite photos from this region -- I can't remember if we've already used it for this game or not... If so, my apologies -- although someone will ID it in record time methinks...

There are two visual clues here -- Where is this place?

The Union Pacific Rail Station in Caliente, NV.

    Default Yup, You got it

Actually the road just to west is one of my favorite haunts -- its a similar geologic structure to Zion NP without the tourists....

Default How about something in the Eastern time zone?

Where is this, and what is it's significance?

    Default It's About Time

Yeah, we needed something east of the Mississippi again, looks like a carriage house or horseless firewagon barn?

Default Good, but not good enough.

Yes, I believe it did serve as the latter, but that's not what it is known for.

You're missing the 'where' and 'signifigance' parts of the puzzle (but at this point you're well on your way).

Default I don't really know, but

    Default Nope

Too early, and too far North.

The event for which this building is most known occured between the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars.

    **NEWSFLASH**

My internet service provider is having issues in their Las Vegas datacenter... so none of my pictures are rendering.

Here's an embedded version, pending a fix.
With the hints as to time period, the institutional look to the buildings, and a right smartly sloping hillside/mountainside in the background, I'm guessing the Armory at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

    Default Close enough!

Specifically, the Armory's firehouse, which is also (now) known as "John Brown's Fort".

Brown held out here after his failed raid in 1859, until finally pried out by US Marines under the command of Brevet Colonel Robert E. Lee (aided by J.E.B. Stuart). Both went on to play key roles for the South in the imminent War Between the States.

Harpers Ferry, an important transportation crossroads (at the joining of the Potomac and the Shenandoah; with the C&O canal running along the Potomac) was a major source of military firepower, due to the armory/arsenal built there (construction started in 1799).

The firebrand abolitionist John Brown attempted to incite a slave insurrection and arm same by raiding the arms supplies in Harper's Ferry... didn't work.

As for the town itelf; it started off in Virginia, then became a part of West Virginia (created during the Civil War) in a realignment of state boundaries after the Civil War. The town changed hands 8 times during the war, and played a role in the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg; a few miles away in Maryland on the other side of the Potomac.

P.S. My internet hosting services is now blaming their network provider, and says "we're working on it". Two hours and counting...
P.P.S. Things are back up; have deleted attachment in previous post. Total down time approx 3:30.
