    Default Gorgeous photos

That desert garden has long been a special place for us. Megan knows it more intimately than I do, but this was a really nice walk down memory lane for me...
And lastly, the library section (what this is named for) has various and sundry Gutenbergs, Shakespeares, etc.
I thought you might have been referring to the Gutenberg...
Visited on a trip down to Pasadena to visit daughter (nursing grad student at CSLA) and son-in-law (genetics grad student at USC; a tough tough thing for an Old Blue to have to deal with).
It's good for you -- keeps you able to eat humble pie....

Oh, now we're in trouble -- I've been to installations that looked like that... but it could be in one of several places -- No hints???

Arrrrrrrrgh. The presence of a window is surprising and takes out my first guess of a certain location in the Nevada desert....

Default OK, a clue or two

That's not a window (it's a door I believe), and 'desert' is about the last thing that would come to mind when considering this location.

That said, 'computer room' is pretty far down the list too.

There are other places like this in the immediate vicinity, this is the only one open to the public. It gets several hundred thousand visitors annually.

I'll let y'all twirl for an hour or two before the next clue arrives.

Default Is it an exhibit at the Smithsonian?

Your clues are mighty vexing -- I really have to go back to work.... but perhaps at the Air and Space Museum? Perhaps even a mock-up of a fire control room on a destroyer?

    Default

I am going to take a wild a** guess and say that it's the USS Midway museum in San Diego.

    Default Nope

    Not on the east coast.

    Not a mock up.

As for "Air and Space"... Of the four realms (earth, sea, air, space) it has associations (one rather more tenuous than others) with three.

    CORRECTION:

    Posted above too late; YES!

USS Midway Museum in San Diego. Home of the pacific fleet, lots of other carriers (usually) visible from the deck of the Midway. Was commissioned at the very end of WWII; used to recover astronauts from time to time (hence the association with "space").

Photo taken when we went down to see Cal in a Holiday Bowl appearance in 2006 against Texas A&M. Magic moment of that game was when the graduating second-string senior quarterback disobeyed Tedford's order to take a knee, and handed the ball off to a freshman running back who hadn't touched the ball all year... he scored. Final: 45-10. Close game until the second half; halftime score 14-10.

Default At least I was headed for the right zone

I got the references -- and figured it had to do something with a naval vessel -- good one again!

Default Speaking of taking the gloves off....

There are some visual clues here... but I bet this one will be a toughie....

Where is this? Why would we care?

    Default Stuck

Olive tree, maybe some citrus, mission architecture but somehow too neat; looks like more modern construction than original.

Definitely California (I think; looks like the bottom flag on the pole might have a red stripe on the bottom, a white field, and maybe a brown bear on it).

    That courtyard is unique.

Hmmmm. Based on where the flagpole is, and the small door, plus the odd "courtyard", I wonder if this is the rear of the building, not the front.

Default Hint #1 -- And a further riddle

It is California, and that is the front entrance... but just about everyone enters the property these days from the rear... If this were an auditory image, you would hear sea gulls and the crashing of surf....And did I mention that this one is a toughie....? The house was built in 1929...
