Well, about 7-8,000 years ago, Mt Mazama, a Cascade volcano, blew it's top, resulting on the current Crater Lake.
I think it would be fair to say it was a little hotter in the neighborhood, at least for awhile, then.
The first time I saw Crater Lake was in late May, the road had just been opened -- it was magical.
