"Where in North America?" --- Section III

Crater Lake Lodge in late spring. They get a lot of snow. We were up visiting Linda's aunt and uncle in the Medford area, with a couple of Chigago-area relatives in tow. Road to rim had JUST barely opened, but weather was bad, couldn't see much so we caught lunch in the lodge, then it lifted enough for this:

I haven't accounted for this part of the clue yet....

Well, about 7-8,000 years ago, Mt Mazama, a Cascade volcano, blew it's top, resulting on the current Crater Lake.

I think it would be fair to say it was a little hotter in the neighborhood, at least for awhile, then.

Crater Lake gets more than 40' of snow a year, on average; over 900" in 1950 (calendar year) and 879" in the 1932-33 snow season.

Let's change things up with an interior.

This now houses artists, formerly it played a role in matters military.

The first time I saw Crater Lake was in late May, the road had just been opened -- it was magical.

What is it, where is it, and what did it used to be?

This looks like a former army building -- at first I thought there could be such a building in the old San Francisco Presidio but then I remembered the view from the Marin Headlands and there was something about this building (and your clue) that pointed me in this direction. Most of this installation was known as Fort Barry and was more-or-less fully active from 1907 to 1972. More information about the current exhibits can be found here.

New bridge at Hoover Dam.

Thought this picture worth sharing but didn’t know where to put it. So here it goes. Courtesy of our UK paper the Mail Online. Looks like the bypass bridge will be open next year.

Can't wait to see it for myself! Any idea of an opening date? Judging by the progress since I was there the Sagrada Familia will likely be finished first!

Wrong side of the country.

Here's another clue: when Farragut uttered his immortal line, he wasn't talking about what used to be made here; those things weren't invented yet. The name he used we now use to refer to another type of object, but one with the same ultimate objective.

P.S. Megan's shots are beautiful! I'm not happy with that shot of mine, a 5 shot panorama stitched together in Photoshop; the seams are still visible. May spend more time later on it. I love the reflections she got in hers.
