    Default A Brillant Collaboration!

Yes, that is the Willamette Falls -- and it would be an intimidating sight if you were in a kayak!

    Default Hint #1

OK, since the last one was west of the Mississippi River -- here's one that's east of the Mississippi River -- We all like to identify pretty buildings -- right? What is this building? What city is it located in?

    Default Looks like a courthouse?

Interesting building, lots of unique detail...

Mansard roof, meander detail on cornices, upside-down stars and some shield or emblem of some sort on roofs.

None of it is helping me.

If the clock faces are to be believed (I make it to be around 1pm), the length of the shadows would indicate this place is pretty far north.

Default You are a deductive analyst aren't you?

    Hint #2:
OK, it's not as far north as Minneapolis, but it is north of Des Moines....And in the matter of "fair dealing" it has to deal with "lake effect" weather in the winter....And... oh yeah, it is a court house. But where is it?

    Default Hint #3

The location shares an affinity for the "motor city"

Emblems (check) but where do you see the upside-down stairs? Good catch on the clock!

Okay - so you are telling us it's somewhere in Michigan, but not in Detroit? With lake effect, it would have to be in western MI.........just a wild guess - Grand Rapids?

Default It helps if I can read -- Hint #4 (and final)

Oh, S-T-A-R-S. Not stairs. Yeah. OK.

    Known:
    It's a court house
    It's in Michigan
It shares an affinity with Detroit
It's close enough to a great lake to feel lake-effect storms (maybe not the one you're thinking of)

    It's actually eastern Michigan
The city's name has seven letters
It was first settled in 1818
The city was incorporated in 1861
GM is still the largest employer
