Michigan (Mackinaw to the Wisconsin Dells, due NORTH!)

Old roadies may remember my last post about a trip from Michigan to Myrtle Beach? Well... we've scaled back a little.

My friends and I are planning to visit my father in Egg Harbor, WI.

We want to road trip from where we live in Southeast MI to Mackinaw City, then up through the Upper Peninsula and finally down into Wisconsin... perhaps stopping in Chicago on the way back home.

We will stay with my father once we arrive in WI but on the way we'd like to camp.

If anyone has any advice/good campsites in Northern MI or WI/interesting things to see... I'd love to hear from you!

Welcome to the RTA Forum!

Its really hard to beat the UP for great camping sites. With all of the national forest land, along with state facilities, there are just a ton of possible sites. I've found some excellent priave lakefront sites on a holiday weekend! Some of my favorites are in the Ottawa National Forest, which has some excellent dispersed sites. You just need to check with the rangers to get a map and to find some of them.

For things to do, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a very nice place to spend some time. You could also watch ships go through the locks at Sault Ste. Marie or spend some time at the Shipwreck Museum. This is also prime waterfall country, so there are lots of places to view them throughout Northern Michigan and Wisconsin.
