Vegetation looks right for somewhere near Las Vegas, but the water level looks way too high for Lake Meade. How about Lake Mohave?

Well, technically your response for Lake Mohave would apply to "What's downstream of this point?" So, I guess this will count as the correct response. The place I snapped the photo was actually Willow Beach, just downstream from Hoover Dam. Rafters put in at Black Canyon and then a leisurely day trip is to float down to Willow Beach or you can make this a nice two day float like Ellen "River Goddess" Ross did here...

On the basis of the sheep... I would say the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park near Logan Pass. Here's a field report from that highway. But I am not sure what that dome-like structure could be in the top right of the frame. So, it may not be Logan Pass?

It's not in Glacier National Park and there are no sheep in the photo.

Some people refer to them as mountain goats, but those look like mountain sheep to me. At first I thought they could be charlais cattle -- but the close-ups look like mountain sheep.

So, not in Glacier --- OK gotta do some thinking.

BTW: The white critters in the field report for Going to the Sun road are not sheep.

Care to make a small wager on that? I can even tell you the genus -- but they are mountain sheep and neither mountain goats nor Dall Sheep as some might think.

Oreamnos americanus, commonly known as Mountain Goat.

Hmmmm, I went 10 rounds with a reader who managed to convince me that I was incorrect when I originally captioned that photo with Mountain Goat and she had a whole bunch of evidence -- evidence I can no longer find... so..... maybe it is mountain goat after all.

OK, so it's mountain goats and there not near Logan Pass -- so.... could you give us a hint of what state they are in? Clearly it is above timberline.

George (glc) did you drive that road with snow on it? There are some very hairy places when the road is wet and muddy!

No way! My truck is only 2wd, I took the pic from the viewpoint.

I think driving it in early spring would be an "E" ticket ride to say the least. Somehow the notion of sliding the entire way down is not.... pleasant.

If I had a properly equipped 4wd, I would have done it. That day would have been very messy no matter what - it was raining.

I'm not afraid to take my truck off road - it does have a limited slip rear, but it has standard highway tires. Rough slow going would not be fun at all though - it's got a heavy duty clutch in it for towing, and it's pretty beat - it chatters like mad when you try to slip it at crawl speeds.

The farthest off road I got this trip was the drive down to the end at Capitol Reef.
