Northeast FL to Boston and back

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are planning an 8-day roadtrip from Jacksonville, Florida to Boston, MA the last week in April. It's kind of a short time to plan, so we need all the help we can get! We'd like to stay around 95, since that's the most direct way, but I read that US-1 might not be a bad option either. Any thoughts on that?

What cities would you recommend visiting with that time frame in mind? We'd like to visit New York City, but I think that we might be better off making that a separate trip for another time. What do you think? The cities we've considered visiting are Richmond, New York, Philadelphia, Asheville (even though it is kind of out of the way), and Charleston. I'm primarily going off of Google Maps and what's along the route. We've done the whole DC trip several times over, so that's not one location along the route that we're considering.

Also, what is the longest amount of time you'd recommend driving without an overnight stay?

US-1 is a very urban route with lots of stops and starts, so it might not be the best choice to travel it for the entire leg. You'd probably be better off traveling on the interstate, and then cutting over to the coast at times for sections.

Any of the places you've mentioned could be good stops. You might also take a look at traveling up towards the mountains and following I-81, or if you want to stick near the coast, the Cheasapeak Bay Bridge/Tunnel could be an other option to consider for a fun detour.

500-600 miles is usually a good number to shoot for if you want a full day on the interstate, with time for a couple of short stops along the way. That works out to 8-10 hours of on the road time, plus any time you spend at stops and attractions.
