    Yes! Sequoia seed pod. This one was in Sequoia NP.

    The lack of vegetation would make me think White Sands NM or Death Valley NP, but I've been down every paved road in those parks and I don't remember seeing this view. Hmmm, this has me stumped a bit.

    Mark, I am sure you've been to that place or drove by that place several times as it is located right next to a major CA interstate.

    I'll take a flier here -- the spacing of the pit toilets would suggest the area gets lots of visitor activity -- so I'm thinking OHV -- so.... Dumont Dunes?
