New user wanting to plan a trip coast to coast!

Me and my girlfriend are planning on going on a trip starting from the pacific ocean and going to the atlantic. Its going to be a round trip and we plan on traveling in a car. We were wondering if anyone could give us any ideas on what sites we should visit. We want to see the best of what america has to offer :) There realy is no time limit. If anyone is willing to help we would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

How is it possible that you both have an unlimited time to undertake such a trip? This would sound pretty ideal to just about anyone of the regulars on this forum! I moved your thread here, because such open-ended trip planning usually makes more sense here -- and welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

The first question I have is how much $$ do you have for such an adventure? It's rare, (perhaps it's never happened before) where the most valuable commodity we deal with around here -- time -- is under no limits. You can drive coast to coast in five days or five years -- What sorts of places, attractions, etc are you looking for on this epic trip?

There really isn't a definitive list of what you "should" visit. That depends on the types of things that you both are interested in. Do you want to explore the urban jungles? Trek in the back country? See some of the world's wonders? Meet folks in the back woods? Gaze into an Arizona night sky? Go deep sea fishing? Get soaked whitewater rafting? Chow down at some of the country's best restaurants? Chow down at some of the country's most enjoyable greasy spoons?

Do you want to camp or stay indoors for lodging?

Not having a time limit and the trip becomes a function of budget.
