I fly from Los Angeles to Seattle on a Wednesday morning. I need to be in Victoria Friday night. Plane trips to Spokane and Boise are cheap. Any ideas on how to spend those couple days? Any thought would be appreciated.

While I really enjoyed the couple of days I got to spend poking around the area around and south of Spokane, in your case, I think you'd do better to do a spiral out of Seattle, starting by heading down to Mount Rainier National Park, then to Mount St. Helens, on to the coast and the Mouth of the Columbia, up around the Olympic Peninsula, and 'finally' catching the ferry over to Victoria. You may not be able to fit all that into 2½ days, but any part of it would be worthwhile.

I would fly to Boise and go explore Hell's Canyon and go to Joseph on your way to Victoria. The Wallowa area is one of my favorite places and not many folks make a point of going there. One of the surprises of Joseph is the monumental iron sculptures you will find there. When the logging industry "died" in the region, many of those loggers were trained in foundry techniques and some of the best sculptors in the world have worked there. Plus, the road through Hell's Canyon is truly awesome.
