    Default Monument Valley

Heading up to Monument Valley this weekend with a buddy, sort of a last minute trip. Busy looking up locations whenever I'm not at work, so are there any personal suggestions for places to visit up there? Right now we're thinking of Betatakin, Coal Mine Canyon, Valley of the Gods (perhaps) and we've got 2 days to explore, with an open schedule

Default That should be a fascinating trip

You might enjoy this roadtrip report from that area. And this article about Touring the Navajo Nation. While Gouldings was recommended in those posts as a good place to stay, you might enjoy considering The FireTree Inn.

Unfortunately, in my travels through The Southwest, I've neglected visiting Monument Valley so I have no personal observations. Hopefully those links will get you started and someone else with experience there will pop in.

The Mogi Dugway is great road -- here is a photo taken by Southwest Dave:

at the top heading down. (Notice the road in the upper left-hand corner of the frame? It connects with the road in the middle of the photo...)

Valley of the Gods is pretty incredible too.

Personally, I like the area around Hat Rock on the Oljeto Mesa -- but it is reservation land so tread lightly.

    Default Goosenecks state park.

The Moki dugway drive was certainly a memorable one,Fantastic!

An often overlooked park is Goosenecks which has great views of the winding San juan river that has carved it's way around the rock. It's a short drive on a paved road that branches off the 261 after a couple of miles when heading north from Mexican hat and worth the time out if you are in the Valley of the Gods area.

A picture taken from Gooseneck where you can see some spire tops of Monument valley in the distance.

From the top of the Moki dugway there is the Muley point road that offers great views, but this is unpaved so we did'nt attempt it in our 30ft R.V as I am not sure of the condition of the road.
