I asked a travel agent here on the gold coast about trying to travel parts of Route 66. She asked me what it was.... I told her it was a road and to go and cars the movie...anyway.. Is there much of it left? sorry if i sound nieve however I believe its a combination of lots of roads....

Vegas... my friends have told me thats its nothing during the day and action at night... your opinion please. Is there much to see during the day as we wont be spending our days in the casinos.

Instead of going from Vegas straight up to vancouver - how long roughly would it take to get from Vegas to Denver back to Salt lake. Just wondering if we can fit it in...

There are pieces of the old road intact. Look at this site for information about what you can see and do on it today.

Let's see Las Vegas is home to 2,000,000 residents and on the average weekend about 300,000 visitors. So, probably there is plenty to do during the day. RTA's headquarters are in Las Vegas and we chose this location because of the superb combination of food, entertainment and road trips locales. That seems odd to me. Oh, well....

Some people travel I-40, which parallels old Route 66 and, I believe, also includes some snippets of the same route the old road traveled, and call it good. Some people are purists and will drive of I-40 when needed but drive off of it to actually travel the old roads that made up Route 66 when they still exist. This is more difficult as Route 66 was re-routed a few times so you have different alignment options to choose from. But it's certainly possible and could be a lot of fun. Either way works. Me? I've done a bit of both but only in NM and AZ. I've yet to get farther east on Route 66 than that.

Vegas is 24-hour action. There are non-gambling things to do like the museum for Lucille Ball, the Star Trek Experience and other rides, and more. And, of course, lots of side trips.

It's about 1300 miles via quickest routes, so figure about 22-23 hours just to drive it. And you will be driving through some amazing parts of the country with lots of national parks and other places worth exploring. You could do a quick whistle-stop tour in 4 days but it would be tight.

So much to take in when renting a car. We will be renting a car when we arrive in LA and travel down to San Diego, Vegas, Vancouver, San Fran back to LA. Can we take the rental car in to Canada?

Can anyone advise recommend rental from LA?

These are both questions you'll have to work out on your own, unfortunately. Rental car pricing changes from day to day, if not hour to hour. So the best advice anyone can offer you is to just use any one of the various search engines that will check on rates from the various rental companies and let you know what the best deals are at any given moment. Before you sign up for any deal though, read through the fine print, particularly the section(s) having to do with geographical restrictions. Most of the major companies allow their cars to go into Canada (but not Mexico), but make sure!. Then, even after you have what you consider to be a good deal, check again from time to time and if you find a better deal, you can cancel your old reservation and make a new one. Just make sure that you know the cancellation policy on your current reservation, which is usually at least 24 hours notice.
