  1. Default Victoria B.C. to Washington, Oregon coasts ending in Portland

Need advise on a short trip from Victoria B.C. along the Washington/Oregon coast ending in Portland. We will leave Victoria late Thurs. afternoon and need to be in Portland Sunday eve. Is this possible? Any recommendations for places to visit and stay along the way?

Here are some ideas about the Olympic Peninsula and coastal route. (That thread starts in LA -- so just look at the Olympic Peninsula ideas suggested by Judy)

You could easily take Friday/Saturday for exploring Olympic Peninsula, and then meander down the coast on Sunday with time to end up in Oregon by Sunday evening.

If you're traveling down the west side of the Olympic Peninsula, the southern point of the peninsula is around Lake Quinault. Lake Quinault is roughly 4 hours from Portland if you head to I-5 from Aberdeen. But if, from Aberdeen, you continue south on 101 until Astoria before heading east to Portland, you'll want to figure more like 5 hours driving. Add time to stop and explore, of course.

If you're traveling down the east south, Portland is about 3 hours from Shelton.

If you elect to drive down from Olympia to Portland via I-5, you will have time to stop at Mt. St. Helens (my #1 must-see in Washington state). At Castle Rock, go east to the Johnston Ridge visitor center (about a 1 hour drive). Figure 2-3 hours to enjoy everything there before heading back to I-5. This detour will take you about 3-5 hours overall and is definitely worth it. YOu could do it and still get into Portland in the evening.
