Solo roadtrip - BC to Ontario, by way of the USA?

Hey everyone,

I am planning a roadtrip for the summer of 2008. I have 3 weeks vacation booked from late July to early August. The following trip is what I'm planning for and I have a few questions (which will appear further down)..

Saturday, July 26 - Depart from Vancouver, BC. Destination: Thunder Bay, Ontario.

I am travelling solo, which is cool because I love to drive and the call of the open road must be answered!

So, with 3 weeks available for there and back, my questions are:

A) Is it a good idea to travel either eastbound or westbound using the U.S. highway (interstate) system?
B) Is it safe? I'm not worried so much about my personal safety while driving as I am about being alone in a "foreign" land...
C) Also, are there any websites where people can find "travel buddies"? Is that even a good idea to consider?
D) 420 is something I enjoy. Will I be able to find some along the way? Any tips on that?

I just can't see driving both ways in Canada.



Thanks for allowing me to post this thread. Any comments, thoughts, suggestions, opinions, recommendations and feedback in general is much appreciated.

PS - I'm not so much concerned about seeing "touristy" things....For me, the highlight of the vacation is the trip itself.

The interstate system is one of most used and the safest in the world. Is there a particular concern that you have?

Thousands of people travel solo every day, in fact, some people prefer it.

In addition to the share the gas section of this forum, there are several other sites that specialize in that field.

D) 420 is something I enjoy. Will I be able to find some along the way? Any tips on that?

Its illegal everywhere in the US, and planning to break the law while traveling in a foreign country is never a good idea.
