And some really nice pix too. Funny thing is I know exactly where you took that picture of the lack of traffic on US50. It brought everything back as clear as day. When we drove that stretch by the dry lake the road was absolutely carpeted with very crunchy insects.

Thank you. I'm glad there weren't any bugs on the road when I went through, that would not have been fun on a motorcycle!!

The biggest problem I had with bugs was in southeastern California. I was leaving the The Desert Winds Motel (only $30 a night) in Blythe ....



...but first a check of the weather. It was nice to see that it was going to be cooler, the day before it was 117 degrees. I was told how lucking I was to be here now because the week before it was in the 120s!!



Highway 78 started with miles of alfalfa fields with a narrow two lane road running through the middle of it. There were thousands of little yellow butterflies flying across the road. I was covered with them, they were in my coat, inside my helmet, I even found some in my shoes.
The fields ended and then it was rolling hills through desert....



...and then sand dunes.



This was a very interesting road.

I think the roadrunner design on the chair the RV lady loaned you is very appropos!

And I, too, get excited when I do things like stand in two states at the same time. I jumped with joy the last time I stood on the continental divide. What's up with that? LOL

South of Portland, OR, is a sign saying that you are halfway between the equator and the north pole. It's on I-5 and there's no place to pull over and park except for a narrow shoulder that says no parking. I'm considering attempting a quick stop there anyway. My car needs it's picture taken by the sign. Really, really bad. ;)

I'm thinking if I time a trip there at the crack of dawn, traffic should be light and I might get away with it. Just hope there's not "pay to play" involved.

The "lonelisest road" was interesting, a lot of history, but on a short trip I would pick other places before going there.
I did two road trips last year, a Jeep road trip with my wife and then one with the bike. Here's some pictures from the Jeep trip.
