I must have missed the camping sites -- but I did see some other very scenic views....

Check out this and the view from my porch! I liked that place, a shame I had to press on, in a way.

Craig, yeah that was a nice place -- even if the world had mysteriously shifted on its axis.... A Mustang eh? I bet that was a fun ride!

    Default Like an old girlfriend...

...but without the faults. Actually, there were faults, but I could see past them. I miss the old girl already!

    Default I'm Happy Now

Great Photos! You captured a lot of moving monuments to a troubled area of the country's past. Plus some darn cool racing photos.

You're right - the pictures of the camping are just gorgeous. I think I'd like camping but - single girl, camping alone - just sounds like the opening the Friday the 13th part 50.

    Default Highway 190

Paolo99 sent me a private message asking about Highway 190 through South Louisiana. I decided to respond here just in case anyone else was interested. [Excellent -- Editor]

I'm guessing you're asking about details of what's there. It goes across the Morganza Spillway (swampy land from the Atchafalaya River) and through quite a few small towns like Krotz Springs and Port Barre (pronounced Barry).

It also cuts an hour of driving time off when going across Louisiana. 190 actually goes all the way to Texas. I've never driven it further west than Opelousas, but I'm always passing it when taking Highway 171 down the Lake Charles, LA.

There are a ton (or used to be before Katrina - I haven't been down that way since then) of restaurants. Lots of stores asking you to come in and view the alligators and snakes, also. The last time I actually drove that road was the day before Katrina hit. I had to drive down to Baton Rouge that morning to visit with a client and back that night. I was so wired that I couldn't sleep and wound up staying up almost the entire night watching the storm come in.

Louisiana has a fairly well developed internal highway system. Many of them are still two lanes, but some of the more heavily traveled ones are 4 lanes. With only three interstates running through the state most internal travel is undertaken along small highways. Being such a poor state, there is little mallification. So you'd probably like this state very much. :)

If I can be of any further assistance let me know. I love when people want to visit my state and see more than just New Orleans. We've got such a rich and bizarre history that so many people overlook.
