Default Insider Tips from the Source

The woman at the deli at our favorite restaurant at the Mobil station has heard from crews that the goal is to open the road next week. One lane with traffic control.

The avalanches took out one of the two lanes at Olmstead Point

I have and I think it determines our plans arriving in to the park from San Francisco. We are staying the first night in Fish Camp so, instead of the obvious route across country and then down through the park, we will cross over via Modesto and Merced and then check in to our accommodation before heading in to the park later in the day to visit the Mariposa Grove. Next morning it'll be an early start to make our way in to the park. Hopefully that'll side skirt the worst of the problems.

Keeping things on topic: midday on 22nd August (said in jest: I hope I am wrong!)

Can't beat local Intel ! Is thatThe Woah Noah Deli? Yeah love that place!

Hard to imagine them shoveling snow on the pass with such high temperatures sweeping through the Southwest!! I understand Death Valley has every chance of breaking the record for hottest day on Earth ever!

Yeah, there is still snow on our local mountains -- which can be seen from the Strip! But we will be above 111 F (~40.5 C) every day for 10 days now, so I think the snow will be gone soon.

I just looked -- Death Valley is looking at possible temps of 122 F today or 46 degrees C. And it was pretty dang toasty on our patio this morning in Las Vegas.

Since both of my two previous guesses have expired, my new one is August 3 at 9 AM.

We returned on Sat. from 8 days in South Lake Tahoe, our longest stay in many years. Our son and eight friends rode boat across Echo Lakes and backpacked Desolation Wilderness to Ropi Lake the weekend before last. They encountered enough snow they needed GPS to stay close to trail even though they did not go much above 8000'. We encountered a couple of patches of snow under trees between Lower and Upper Angora Lakes (~7500') and found Blue Lakes Road closed at the 4th gate when we tried to drive to Sunset Lakes. Picture is Kirkwood taken from CA-88. They would have had to move a lot of snow to allow people to ski off lifts and to 7800' base.

Since getting home to our warm part of San Jose the high temps have been 102 on Sat, 101 on Sun and 103 today when it was supposed to start cooling off.

I know that this is a crazy year. Thanks for snow report.

I have friends who typically do a portion of the John Muir trail each summer, since none of are 100% proficient with technical ice climbing, they have elected to "not-go" this year.

Must be some VERY HUNGRY bears in the high country about now.

I’ve heard from multiple sources that It will open Saturday, July 22. There will be delays at places where only one lane is available.

    Default From the horses mouth.

The Tioga pass is scheduled to open on Saturday July 22nd @8am according to Yosemite NPS. For anyone travelling to Yosemite and planning to drive over the Pass, camp or hike in the area, it's best to check the Current conditions first. Latest info from Yosemite is quoted below.

While vault and portable toilets will be available, there will be no water, no store or food service, and no fuel. Be sure to bring all the food and water you need. The Tuolumne Meadows Wilderness Center will be open (8 am to 5 pm) and a general information desk near the visitor center will be open from 9 am to 5 pm.
Tioga Road has some damage, so watch for one-lane sections, with delays up to 15 minutes just east of Olmsted Point.
There is no estimate when Tamarack Flat or Porcupine Flat Campgrounds will open. Other campgrounds on Tioga Road will not open this year.
It's still snowy up there! Meadows and some trails are flooded. Snow is persisting in some shady areas as low as 8,000 feet, with extensive, deep snow coverage by 9,000 feet. Stay on trails to protect growing plants and plan for wet feet. Marked trails may be hard or impossible to follow; hikers should have GPS, as well as map and compass (and know how to use them).
There has been a lot of posts to trawl through to find the chosen dates, (and once it's Officially confirmed open, I shall double check) but for now it appears as though Mark (Sedenquist) is the closest with his prediction of July 24th @8am. (Insider info perhaps!)

Sheriff Dave, it does sound a little suspicious that I could win the DCTPP again!
