The way things have been going in the CA Sierra this Winter, I'm probably a week or two too early, but I'm picking Friday, June 30 at 8 AM.

The blue line is 2022. You can really see the difference from the melting snow this year.

    Water Levels Keep Dropping.

    1:30 pm March 13th

    ------------------------------------------------------------

It is raining again in the valley and so the stream level is climbing again!

    1:30 pm March 14th

    ------------------------------------------------------------

I really thought the flows would get higher. But maybe not.

    2:30 pm March 15th

    Still dropping!

I would have thought with the record amount of snow and rain that the stream flow would have been higher. Not so far!

Almost a normal flow this year thus far.

I noticed that all of the Web cams are now offline.

Default A lot of water content !

Almost a normal flow this year thus far.
I reckon that will change rapidly when the snow stops and the thaw begins. The Rangers have recorded snow depths of 146 inches in Tuolumne meadows which is a record and it's current depth of 140 inches (before this latest snowfall) hasn't been seen since 1983.

Looking forward to seing the April 1st snow survey reports, 1983 was 224% of average!

Default Great news for Mono lake recovery ! (By the tiniest margin)

The DWP (Department of power and water) and Mono Lake committee staff met to read the current level of Mono lake. It turned out to be great news for the lake and it's habitats as the level recorded of 6379.99 feet was under a set threshold of 6380 feet by just an eighth of an inch. That tiny amount means the DWP can only draw off 4,500 acre-feet during the runoff year instead of 16,500 acre-feet runoff had it been 6380 feet !! They also expect lake levels to rise by 3 feet or more with the expected high run off over the coming months.

Story from the Mono lake committee

    Dave.

Default July 7th at 8 am.

Given the record snow levels in the pass... I am going to abandon my prognostication of May 12th and instead go for July 7th at 8 am.

Sheriff Dave, you may have to ping the poll for me--actually I will use another version of me.

  10. Default And at Noon

An alter-ego of Mark Sedenquist will ping this for July 7th at Noon
