  1. Default Seattle to Reno -- route double check & best place to overnight

The last two years put a damper on my road trips, but for this year's spring break (mid-April), we're going to head from Seattle to Reno. AAA and Google seem to agree that the best route is I-5 from Seattle to Eugene, OR-58-US-97, US-97-CA-139, and CA-139 S and US-395 to Reno.

I had planned to overnight in Eugene (about 4.5-5 hours from Seattle) and make day 2 of driving the longer day, but I'm wondering if I should flip that. We'll stay 4 nights in Reno to sightsee, then drive back -- perhaps on another route for a change of pace (we like visiting Pendleton, OR)

We'll have two drivers, but since I get extremely motion sick, once I stop driving and become a passenger, I have to take meds which make me a little sleepy. Along for the ride is our 9 year old son.

Vehicle is 2007 Toyota 4Runner, 4WD, and we have chains on board all the time.

Any tips on this trip, and the routing are welcome!

    Default Not Much to Add

Actually, you seem to have a good grasp on the situation, and it is not at all uncommon for people to suffer from kinetosis (motion sickness) only when they're the passenger and not when they're the driver. You might want to make your overnight stop a bit closer to the midway point just to even things out and let you get into Reno before supper. And since you need drowsiness-inducing meds when sitting right seat, you should take the first driving shift each day, and once you switch off, have your significant other drive the rest of that day.

If you "flipped it" then Klamath Falls would be an option to overnight at. If you can leave home at a reasonable hour in the morning I would personally prefer to get more driving done on day 1 and relax into your break on day 2.
