  1. Default Oregon. California Coast & Disneyland

    Hello!

I last posted a few years ago when I was planning a road trip to California but decided to put off the trip until we could get a good chunk of time off from work. Now we (2 adults/ 1 college kid) are planning a 12-day road trip from Portland,Oregon to Disneyland (plus a day & night at each end to fly to/from the east coast) in August.

So far our stops include Tree of Mystery Sky Trail through the Redwood forest in Klamath California with some additional time exploring other areas with Redwoods, at least 2 days in San Francisco (including Fisherman's Wharf & Alcatraz), an overnight stop in Solvang, California. and 2 days at Disney.

We are still researching what we want to do/ where we want to stay. Any suggestions are welcome. Since we are already going to the biggest tourist trap in the state (Disney) I am interested in discovering more outdoor activities, esp. in forests with redwoods. Easy hikes and nature walk, maybe 1 or 2 more strenuous hikes but no extreme activities.

My original post was here: https://www.roadtripamerica.com/foru...-to-Disneyland and I have taken a lot of that advice into consideration. We decided to forgo Yosemite this and stick to the coastline instead.

Also, any tips on how to use the road trip map? It is not very user friendly, especially when trying to add stops along the way.

There are many great stops heading down the coast but Newton B Drury scenic parkway in Prarie creek, The Ladybird Johnson grove near Orick and the Avenue of the Giants in Humbolbt Redwoods State park are all great little detours through the Redwoods. You can also witness a spectacular view of the Golden gate bridge and SF (Weather permitting ) from Conzelman road on the Marin headlands. I would also suggest you book your boat tickets to Alcatraz in advance using the only official ticket seller. Find them here.

If you plan on driving over the Golden Gate Bridge with a rental car, you need to read this:
