Yes, they both take cash - for now.

Bear Mountain is $1.50, and the Whitestone is $8.50. The Whitestone is removing the booths in October and converting to all-electronic.

Thank you so much for your advice guys. Followed AZBucks route and managed to get there no problem. Felt pretty tense all the way just in case we went wrong but the directions you have were easy to follow. Got to say the car hire drop off was much easier than the pick up! Once at feeeral circle we jumped on the air train and caught the subway to our accommodation. Could not have coped with a car in New York. Drivers are MENTAL!! Much easier to travel by foot - and better for us!
