First Solo Road Trip 395 from Death Valley to Bend, OR then on to Portland in April

Hello, I'm planning a trip for April 1st of this year to head north from Death Valley all the way through to Oregon. At that time of year, should I be worried about snow or any other treacherous conditions? I'll be traveling solo with a dog in a Kia Soul. Stopping in Susanville one night. I've read such amazing things about this route that I really want to try it out but I've also read other posts that make me a bit nervous. But they're old posts. Any advice would be much appreciated. The weather will do as it pleases and it's far too early to predict what that will be when you travel but you shouldn't worry yourself about it and there is every chance that you will have a good journey. There is a chance you will see some snow, but a lot less of a chance that it would be heavy and cause major disruption The 395 is a lovely drive and something to look forward to.

There isn't a whole lot you can do now, but remember, you are traveling on major highways that are constantly plowed and maintained, so there shouldn't be too much of a problem if it does snow between now and then. But a couple weeks out, check the forecast and plan accordingly.

That being said, if you do come across a snowstorm, play it safe. You should never push yourself or your car further than you are comfortable with. Find a place to stay until the roads are clear. Carry jumper cables (cold weather kills car batteries), a shovel, blankets, and an extra set of dry clothes wherever you go. Being a AAA member is also a bonus.

On to the good stuff. 395 is an extraordinarily scenic road with many things to see along the way. How long are you going to take for this trip?
