We drove through there George, no Tulips were humped ! Having done a little research I found this explanation.

The name Humptulips was the name of a band of the Chehalis tribe who lived in the area. The name comes from a local Native American language, meaning 'hard to pole',

Perhaps I should mention that it refers to 'Poling' their canoes along the Humptulip river.

A wise traveller once told us to carry $2 bills for tips and such things as they are rarely used and more memorable to the recipient. ;-) [Lezli's handywork 'modifying' that particular one.]

I'm sorry for joining the thread so late. There are several items l wanted to comment on, but they are out of context now.

Your commentary and pictures are great! In fact, l'll trade you your full shot at Multnomah Falls for my five pictures of the mountains from the platform on Larch Mountain. The day I visited Sherrard Point was a clear one, and the view was fantastic!

Looking forward to the remainder of the trip.

Harry, you can bring comments forward from earlier posts -- do you know how to do that? (Hint: You use the "reply with Quote" function -- but only grab just enough of the previous post to make sense. We'd much rather have the commentary -- it doesn't have to be linear!

Hi Harry and thank you for the Kudos. We loved the views from Larch mountain and got to see the 5 peaks, but the light was far from ideal for capturing images. I still wouldn't mind seeing yours though.

September 21st Cont..........

For dessert we had 'Smores' heating the Marsh mellows around the fire, quite popular in the US I believe, but a first for us all and very nice they were to !

Speaking of marshmallows, there is a marshmallow farm about a mile from my house, and I got this picture of the crop just as it was ready for harvest. Just click on it to see the enlargement.
