June New England Roadtrip

Hello fellow travelers! I'm new to the site but hoping someone can help me out. I'm planning a trip to New England this summer and want to maximize my experience. I am flying into Boston late Monday night and flying back out of Boston Saturday night, so essentially I have 6 days and I want to pack in as much as I can. I'm planning to stay in Boston for the first few days, but then roadtripping around the other states for the last few. I am one of those nerds who wants to go to all 50 states, so I'd love to hit all 6 if I can. So here's my question:

If I leave Boston Thursday morning and return to Boston Saturday evening, what's the best path to take to hit all 5 other states and get the most out of my trip?

Also, if you're not able to help on that question but know of some great places to stop, please feel free to leave those as well.

You could conceivably get from Boston through all six New England States and back to Boston in a single day's drive. But that's all you'd do - drive through. With as many days as you have (three or four by my reckoning) you can start to see, and do, a whole lot more and have more to show for your efforts than just the ability to say you drove through quickly.
