9 days - car is parked in SF - the south was yesterday...

Dear all,

I will be visiting the U.S., San Franciscoso, for two weeks in early June.
After some working days I'll have 9 days off before going back to Singapore.
I've been in SF four years ago for eight month and traveled a lot in southern CA, AZ, NV, UT.
Hence, the plan is to rent a car and hit the road to the north of the City!

And here's where I'd be very happy to get some advice and recommendation from you.
I was thinking about to general options :
1) either going all the way up to Seattle
2) or to Yellowstone NP

What do you think? Which one would be doable in 9 days (with getting back to SF)? And worth the ride given all potential attractions on the way?
Or would you recommend a different route?

I'd be glad getting some general tips from you!

Hi Peter, and Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

I would choose Yellowstone over any other destination, without hesitation.. A magic place and not like anything you have seen in the other States. If you choose to go that way, start looking for accommodation NOW! If you would like to stay within the park, highly recommended, you may be lucky to pick up a cancellation, if it is all booked up.

Here's another vote for Yellowstone (and Grand Teton). It's 950 miles from San Francisco to West Yellowstone, MT, and more if you go to Jackson, WY first and work your way north. So plan on at least a day and a half getting up there.

As Lifey suggests, start looking for accommodation at Yellowstone NOW. If you can't get one place in the park, you could take several different ones in different places in the park. West Yellowstone is probably the most central out-of-the-park places to find lodging, where you're within reasonable driving distance for the Grand Loop. (But it's not easy to do the northeast or very east section of the park from there.) Two-three days in the park gives you plenty of time to see the big sights and take a short day hike or two back into the wilderness if you like. Returning to SF through Grand Teton National Park and Jackson would be another idea.
