    Hi Midwest Michael,

Thanks for your input. Would be a real shame to miss Tioga pass.
Will have to workout online the approximate mileage for everything.

Nearly bedtime for me here, so wishing you guys a great day :)
Will be dreaming about our rv trip!

    Default By the way....

The alternative route Dave outlined would be perfect, if per chance, an early storm closes Tioga Pass. I sincerely hope for your sake, that it does not happen.

Default It was meant as an alternative.

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting you alter the trip to save miles as Michael leant towards in his comment, it was just an alternative route and attractions to consider that would possibly fit your time scale. Tioga Pass is a wonderful drive and not going via Death valley [also wonderful !) doesn't mean that you could not drive up there and experience Tenaya lake and the Meadows etc on Tioga Pass during your stay in Yosemite. However you could take the original route suggested through Death valley and still head up to Zion NP then to Zion NP, South rim and back to Vegas if you wanted to venture further. The good news is, you are in for an amazing time whatever you decide !

  4. Default Where to spend night (2 nights) Pacific Coastal Highway

    Hi All,
Plans are coming nicely together for our first roadtrip. We plan to spend 2 nights on the PCH between SF and Morro Bay. A couple of easy days to get over the jet lag before going to Yosemite.
Can anyone recommend two good places to spend the night?
Happy to boondock one night if it is safe and unproblematic. Mayneed hookups for one night.

Thanks in advance for your great suggestions. This forum is such a help for first-timers like us.

To enjoy the coast with 2 nights I would look at the Monterey and Cambria areas, although there are a few more remote campgrounds in between including at State Parks. I'm not sure you would find a place to 'Boondock' legally in such a popular area and if there is it's probably a closely guarded secret.
