There are a number of RV parks in the greater LA area. Bonelli County Park is one of my favorites. You really should pick up a Woodalls RV Camping book or the Good Sam Guide and use it for finding both rural and urban parks that would fit your budget and trip..
There's even a campground near the ritzy area of Newport Beach....

Are you a member of your automobile club at home. If you are, make sure you bring your membership with you. It will give you access to free maps and tourist information from the AAA, all over North America. Last time I got camping information, I was given the Woodalls RV Camping Guide free. AAA no longer produce their own, and provide it instead.
