Phoenix to Miami

Hi All, I will be dropping off a car in Miami and flying back to Phoenix mid May. I would like to break up the drive with some interesting stops ( more along historical or park vs oddity or roadside attraction) of an hour or two in duration. Also, we are interested in dining at some quintessential eateries along the way. We do not mind driving a long stretch if the payoff gives us more time in an interesting locale. Thoughts currently are City of the Rocks and White Sands in NM overnight in Las Cruses. Austin Texas, Nottoway Plantation, a possible swamp tour. Are these good places? Or there other areas we shouldn't overlook and do instead? As far as continuing east, no places are standing out. I appreciate any help and restaurant suggestions. Optimally we will be able to do this trip in 5 days.

Although five days isn't a ton of time for your RoadTrip and a lot of stops, you will have a fair amount of time for seeing sights and savoring a few meals. Some places along your way that you should consider would include the following:

If you're going by way of White Sands, then it's not much of an additional detour to include Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

In Amarillo, there's the Big Texan.

Outside of Austin, try the Salt Lick.

A good general area to explore swamps and bayous would be along the Creole Nature Trail.

While hading down through Florida, you'll be passing near (or even right by) the Kennedy Space Center.
