Florida Road Trip - Orlando to Miami

Hi, I have used this forum before for a road trip around California which was really helpful and I got some great advice so hoping to get some more!

Will be in Florida for a friends wedding in September. We are staying in a villa in Orlando until 24th September and our flight home is via Miami airport on 28th. So we have 4 nights to drive around Florida. Any recommendations? Our initial thought is to drive down the East coast and go along to the Keys but have heard the keys can be a bit of a party hang out.

We do want to go to Fort Lauderdale, Kennedy Space Centre, Everglades

I will let somebody else chime in about the Keys, but you will want to allow at least 6 hours for Kennedy Space Center, and probably a whole day for The Everglades!

I would allow at least one full day for the Space Centre. One day to enjoy the drive south. A day at the Everglades and a day on The Keys will give you an opportunity to experience some of the best southern Florida has to offer.

If you're good with getting off the interstate and tollway, 441 south to 27 would take you to Aligator Alley, definitely worth a trip. Make sure you stop off at the various view points. We saw lots of aligators at play. Take 29 down to 41 and back to the east coast.

On the Keys make sure you check out the various park reserves, the wildlife bird centre and Pine and No Name Keys, the preserve of the endangered Key Deer, the smallest of the deer species. Key west, with all its tourist attractions will speak for itself.

I have always found the area of Homestead / Florida City a great base for The Keys and the Everglades.
