Family road trip west coast

We're a family of 2 adults and 2 children, aged 12 and 14, from England. We'd like to visit west coast San Francisco, Canyon, Yosemite, Vegas and LA in July next year. Would like some advice about best way to get around 9RV?), best route and towns to stay over in. We'd really like to stay at a 'ranch' and with the children, limit the daily hours travelling. We have approx 3 weeks. Any advice? Thanks

'Best' really comes down to individual tastes in all departments and is what makes the road trip so special, in making your own choices based on information, your travel style, tastes and interests. Once we know some more about your plans we can make suggestions and help you to get the best from your trip.

With 3 weeks you have a nice amount of time and should be able to create a nice loop in and out of SF. By heading south from SF you will put the Ocean and Oceanside view points on your side of the road, a big plus for many. From LA you could make tracks towards the Grand canyon before heading to Las Vegas, Yosemite and back towards SF. From the GC you would have plenty of time to visit Monument Valley and possibly head up into Southern Utah and Bryce canyon and Zion NP's before Vegas. There are many other options along this basic outline [and beyond] and I would suggest you search RTA where you wil find plenty of info like here in this thread.

An RV won't be the cheapest way to get around, it would work out more expensive than a car and Motels in most cases, but it can be a great Lifestyle choice that is much more in keeping with the National parks than the City. I actually regard this as 'best' for me, but only you can decide works for you. [See our RV trip in the link above.]
