It really is amazing the differences you can find between different states in terms of insurance prices. Each state has their own rules in regard to minimum coverage, liability rules and limits, "no fault" rules, etc, add those to actual crash and theft data from a specific area, and you get big swings between areas.

Good vibes coming your way and everything crossed !!!!!

    Dave.
Awoke this morning to find an email from Daniel (at RPM), with his direct number... a toll free number. And have now spoken with him.

The vehicle was 'sold', then that was cancelled (all within 24 hrs), someone else is interested in it, but has not yet committed. So I told him, that if it is mechanically sound, I definitely want it. Good thing is that they are not open on Sat and Sun, which will give me time to talk with daughter and son-in-law.

Registering the vehicle in MT will save me quite a bit of money, and the attorney with whom I have been working, has all of that in hand. So yes, maybe things are (still) coming together. Geez.... I really hope so. Then I can start to concentrate on other things.

Keep those vibes coming... I think I will need all of them.

    Default Money talks.

I hope you can get someone there pronto to take a look at it and confirm it's as cared for as it looks and appears solid and reliable.

Money talks and I have never yet met a car salesman who would turn down money for someone who is thinking about it !![Interested]

Fingers crossed. [It hasn't been re-listed for sale either so shouldn't draw weekend attention on-line.]

    Default Back to square one!

Do not pass go.... do not collect $200!

Oh!! I am getting so tired of this. How do I get folk to take me seriously. (I should have recorded how many calls I have made. But it must be many dozens by now.)

Default I don't understand what happened this time

What seems to be the issue?

In these days of world banking -- you can transfer funds electronically -- faster than you can call on the phone. The next time you have a deal -- wire the funds!

Default It needs checking out first.

The main issue here me thinks is making such a large purchase from the other side of the world. Lifey quite rightly needs to arrange for someone to inspect the vehicle and make sure it's sound and as described in the advert and that it's all above board. To arrange this all takes time and in that amount of time if a local walks in with the money they [the dealer] take it. [Understandable as well]

It's quite a bit of dollar to gamble with and caution is wise. I'm sure it'll work out in the end !!

Default Thank You, one and all!

I have now cleared the final hurdle.

Just this morning I spoke with an agent who is willing and able to write me an affordable insurance policy with Progressive. Previously I had been told by a CSO in their call centre that I could not get insurance to include US and Canada. Makes such a difference when you are speaking to the person who owns the business.

The vehicle is now paid in full. (Rather than keep dealing with cheques my friend was mailing, my daughter paid everything from her credit card. Friend can just write one cheque to reimburse her.) The papers are on their way to me, to be signed, notarised and returned to the dealership. The registration and titling are in the hands of the attorney. And when I add it all up, it comes in just under budget.

Thankfully, I have come to the end of this journey.... a journey I could never have undertaken successfully without the help from my friends, especially those on this forum. Help which so often exceeded expectation.

Tops among them is glc. What he does not know about the American automobile is probably not worth knowing. I have been totally reliant on his advice and guidance. His help was unending through dozens and dozens of emails over the months, and countless phone calls. He was always there to answer my questions. There is no way I would have bought a vehicle without his imprimatur. My gratitude goes out to him. "Thank You!" seems so inadequate.

Then there is Foy. If it were not for his recommendation and referal to the attorney, the titling and registration may not have been accomplished with the relative ease with which it has. He too, was always there to answer my emailed queries and answer the phone. Furthermore, his detailed inspection report of a vehicle located nearby, taught me what to ask and look for in subsequent searches. My heartfelt thanks goes out to him.

And Southwest Dave, who spent much of his time researching web pages I am not able to access through my isp. The countless links he sent were of immense value. The vehicle eventually purchased was from one of those links. He too never flinched at answering my (endless) questions, and I value greatly having a 'shoulder', when nothing seemed to go my way. Thanks mate! Maybe we will meet up on the road again.... one day. I'll buy you a drink.

There are many other members on this forum, who gave advice, made phone calls for me, researched websites, sent me links, etc., both on and off forum. Too many to mention, but you all know who you are. My thanks to each and everyone of you. None of this would have been accomplished without the collective knowledge and information of all of you put together.

And lastly, having read the report from Jess, I am so glad I did not leave any of this up to Don. I doubt I would have got a vehicle anything like I now have. And more importantly, none of the above involved questionable deals.

Thank you all so very much.

    Default Kudos to all.

Yes that's great news, I was so gutted for you when the previous one we found was sold, while you were trying to arrange things prior to completing the purchase.

Great spirit from the RTA community ! [What would we do without this place !!]

With Lifeys blessing, here is the vehicle.

I hope it serves you well !!

    Dave.
