Looking for sharing a road trip New York City to Chicago May/June 2012

Hi Mates,

I'm French and I'm 25.
I'm planning a road trip in US, in May/June 2012.
I want to visit a couple of cities and I want to take time on the road, and to appreciate landscapes and the American territory.

I'M LOOKING FOR SOME PEPOLE INTERESTED TO SHARING THIS ROAD TRIP EITHER ON THE ALL WAY OR JUST SOME PARTS. I'M LOOKING FOR 2 PERSONS MAX, MAYBE 3 .... IN THE PURPOSE OF MEET SOME NEW PEOPLE AND SHARING THE PRICE OF THE CAR AND THE GAS

After a staying a couple of day in NYC, I'm planning to rent a car up to Chicago. (THE CAR WILL BE ALREADY RENTED FROM THE FRANCE)

Here a small description on my road trip.

Start on the May 24th in Manhattan, heading up to Boston (about 340km/300 mi) in two day driving along the atlantic ocean. (With a night in Charleston on the May 24th). Arriving in Boston on the May 25th.
Stop over in Boston on the 26/27th of May. Making Party and sightseeing in the city.

The next stop is going to be the Giant Niagara Falls (Probably on the Canadian side, it suppose to be the best view)
It's gonna be (750km/470mi) a minimum of 2 days driving (28th and 29th of May).
Let's have a day of rest on the 30th of May, and have a look to the Niagara Falls.

The next part in gonna be driving along the Lake Erie, we could have a stop in the town of Erie, and then Cleveland (31th of May and 1st of June) (350km/220mi)
I read that, there are some good attraction parks close to cleveland, why not on the 2nd of June ?

The Next Part is either going to be heading up to Chicago straight ahead (550km/350mi) in 2 days driving (the 3rd and 4th of June)
OR Cleveland - Detroit (270km/170mi) on the 3rd of June and then a Stop over in Detroit on the June 4th.
And then the Final Part will be Detroit to Chicago in Probably 1 day driving (June 5th) (460km/290mi)

I'll drop off the car on the 5th or 6th of June, depends if we're taking more time on road. The distance total of the trip will be about 2350km/1500mi.

What do you guys think about this road trip?
Obviously I'm looking for people with their driving license.
I'm planning to sleep in every night in youth Hostel.

The program is not completely closed, if someone have some propositions concerning good things to see or to do , just let me know.
If some parts of my trip is not interesting to see, just let me know, i'm completely free to change the program.

This trip wants to be no stress, that why i'm want to take time on the road, and visit the country side of the American territory, and enjoy landscapes along the road.

I've moved your thread to the "Share the Gas" section where you are more likely to find another person to join you on your trip.

I think your trip looks fine for the most part. A couple things to think about.

Youth Hostels are far less common in the US than in Europe. They are there, but you'll have to do a bit of looking to make sure they are available in all the places you are planning to visit. Also, you may want to check on parking, as often they are located in urban areas with limited or expensive parking.

If you are planning to visit Canada, you'll need to make sure that your car rental contract allows cross-border travel. It is possible to walk across the border if that ends up being an issue.

The amusement parks near Cleveland you mentioned are probably in Sandusky. Cedar Point is famous for its roller coasters.

The price will be about 1000€ or $1300 for 14 days.

$1300 ---> 14 days ----> $93/day (1 person) ---> $46/day (2 people) ----> $31/day (3 people)

1000 € ---> 14 days ----> 71€/day (1 person) ---> 35€/day (2 people) ----> 24€/day (3 people)

More people isl less expensive for everybody.
