    Default Sure is.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Yes, it's certainly possible, you could drive across the country in 6 days, so you have time to do a little exploring, although you will have to pick and choose carefully as that time soon disappears. If the 15 days includes time you might want to spend in NY and SF, you will have to take that into consideration. The Colorado Rockies, southern Utah and Arizona [including the Grand canyon] can make for some spectacular scenery along the way, but you have literally thousands of options to choose from.

The advice I would give at this point is to get a good map of the US and take a good look around the RTA forums and road trip planning pages found in the tool bars above. Once you have found places that are of interest to you and you have some dots on the map, we can help to fill in the blanks.

Enjoy the planning and let us know as new questions come up.

  3. Default Road trip between Chicago y San Francisco in May

    Hi,

I am plannig a road trip between Chicago and San Francisco in May and it would be great if you could give me some advice. We are two person to drive the car and we have seven days to spent on the road. We have planned spent the first night in Springfield (Missouri) and then stop to sleep in Amarillo, Roswell, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon National Park, Kingman and Bakersfield.

What do you thing of the route? Do you think seven days is enough time to complete the route? Do you recommend me other places to sleep in the old Route 66?

Thank you in advance for your help

    Default a start

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

The route you've laid out is certainly doable, in the time you've laid out. I will caution that your first two days will mostly be long days on the Interstate. If you are hoping to get off the freeway and find the old Route 66 (the highway hasn't actually existed in 25+ years), then trying to do 500 miles a day for your first two days will be quite tough.

Having said that, what are you hoping to see and do with this trip? If following Route 66 is your top priority, then you're looking ok, and there are plenty of things to see along the way. But if this were my first ever trip to a new country, I wouldn't want to limit myself to a single (and defunct) highway. Personally, I'd much rather focus on the places I want to see first - like national parks or cities - and then build my route around it.
